Honoring our Veterans

By: John Aldrich, Vice President, Military, Veterans & Educational Partnerships

This has truly been a historic year for American Public University System, our 25th anniversary of serving our Armed Forces.  In April, we cut the ribbon on our new Veterans Community Center in our hometown of Charles Town, WV. I was especially moved during the ceremony to note the presence of several veterans who had attended recent academic skills workshops at the center As a Navy veteran and my family’s first-generation college student, I fully appreciate that access to higher education in America  and the variety of opportunities to study openly, without prejudice, and through the free exchange of ideas, would not be possible without your sacrifice and the sacrifice of those who came before us.

To all of our veteran and active-duty students and their family members, I want to recognize your dedication and offer my sincere gratitude for your courage and selflessness in service to our country. I am particularly proud to continue the APUS tradition of honoring all those who serve, or have served, to uphold our collective freedoms. In keeping with that spirit, please take a moment to visit our InMilitary blog to watch and share this special video tribute to our veterans.
